Long Bay Beach Club, located in Long Bay on the West End of Tortola, provided the following update on their Facebook page. They said, “Further demolition will commence at Long Bay Beach Resort starting this Wednesday 26 June. We are excited for the progress and will be making more regular announcements as info becomes available!” They also posted a new photo of the demolition that has been restarted on the old stilt rooms and the timeshare units. Both were completely and irreparably destroyed by storm surge. When asked on Facebook about plans for the future they replied, “Our design team is still working on the final renderings and as soon as they are made available we will sharing with our valued followers.”
While information is scarce on what is happening at the former Long Bay Beach Club we do know that the resort was sold in September, 2018 to a couple from California.
While the specific plans for the new resort are still under wraps, we have heard rumors that plans are to restore the resort to its former glory including the main reception areas, shops and the swimming pool. In addition, we heard that the resort will have the same basic format, but cater to a more high end clientele. Rumor also has it that the beachfront units will not be rebuilt, but this has not been confirmed.
It good to see that there’s finally some real clean-up going on at Long Bay!
