For all the fans of Little Dix Bay information about what is happening with the rebuild and when the resort be operational has been limited. Here are six things we know or have heard to date:
1 – Little Dix Bay Closes for a Major Renovation: In a January, 2016 news article in the Caribbean Journal they reported that the landmark resort whould be closing for a major renovation and transformation. “Rosewood Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands will be launching the most substantial renovation of the property since it was founded by Laurence Rockefeller more than half a century ago,” the article stated. The article went on to say that the property will begin the renovation on May 1, 2016 and the hotel will be closing for approximately 18 months. In addition, the move was expected to affect nearly 300 staff members, a development that BVI Premier Orlando Smith said would impact the entire territory.
2 – Hurricane Irma Devastates the Resort: On December 18, 2017 Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda posted the following update on their Facebook page. They said, “With the holiday season approaching and many people’s minds on the Caribbean, the team at Rosewood Little Dix Bay wanted to share an update on our beloved island of Virgin Gorda. Although the resort was closed and under renovation, unfortunately the property did sustain damage and therefore will not re-open in 2017 as originally planned. At this time, we are still assessing the effects that the storm had on our resort. We now anticipate a late 2018 re-opening, although currently the resort remains closed for all future reservations.”
3 – BVI Government Reveals Delayed Opening Date: According to a December 24, 2018 article in the BVI News Rosewood Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda is set to re-enter the market for the 2019/2020 tourist season. The article stated, “That is according to Premier Dr D Orlando Smith who said his government has been in direct dialogue with the owners of the acclaimed resort.”

Great care will be taken to preserve the uniquely balanced setting of Rosewood Little Dix Bay, with luxurious accommodations set unobtrusively amidst the tranquil gardens of the resort. We look forward to welcoming guests back to the resort in late 2019, to experience the next chapter in Rosewood Little Dix Bay’s legacy.”
