Experience Tingalayo Villa for a Holiday That Is As Good As It Gets
Occasionally, very occasionally, you take a holiday in a place that is so special you find yourself settling back into your chair and thinking… This is as good as it gets. Tingalayo Villa is such a place.
Perched atop the mountain at the end of a private road, Tingalayo is not so much a villa as a private hamlet of seven small buildings interwoven and connected with welcoming outdoor spaces and beautiful gardens. Inspired by Balinese style, the cross-breezes flow throughout the over nine thousand square feet of understated elegance. It was designed with large gathering places comfortable for a group but also with nooks dotted throughout the property for those wanting some privacy.
The truly breathtaking 270 degree views frame unforgettable impressions of the nearby beaches of Smugglers Cove, Long Bay and Apple Bay, the British Virgin Islands of Little Thatch, Big Thatch and Jost van Dyke, the West End of Tortola with Soper’s Hole Marina, St, John, St. Thomas and all the way to Puerto Rico on a clear day.
Great House – The Great House is the largest gathering place at Tingalayo. Inside there is a cozy living room with couches, television, and books for reading and lounging and an indoor dining table. Outside are deep covered porches with comfortable seating to catch the breezes and the full panorama of sea, sky and islands.
The large kitchen is fully equipped for you or a private chef. With a commercial gas range, two full sized refrigerator/freezers, and two dishwashers handling a large crowd is a breeze. Imported granite covers the kitchen counters and adjacent bar seating area. The additional amenities of the outdoor grill, separate pantry area and large complement of kitchen devices add to its functionality.
The largest of the dining areas, the Dining Pavilion seats 12 comfortably around its custom built mahogany tables. Perfectly situated to catch the breezes and the views, the Pavilion is a favorite gathering place. Adjacent to the dining tables is a long built-in sideboard to make serving easy, and two under-counter wine refrigerators.
Infinity Pool – The 45 foot infinity edge pool sits at the center of Tingalayo just steps from the Great House. Unique in its cloud-shaped design, it cantilevers out over the mountain-side, cleverly maximizing its already stunning position. It reaches out to the many islands and bays within its 180-degree views. An array of lounging chairs on its large deck allow for easy viewing of rainbows in the morning, the ferries running to and from the West End, sailboats dotting the Sir Francis Drake Channel, and multi-hued sunsets. The views are constantly changing.
The Main Bedroom Block features three bedrooms and three full bathrooms – two of the bedrooms have king sized beds and one has the option of being either one king sized bed or two twin beds. You can open the windows and allow the ceiling fans to bring in the breezes and scents of the garden, or you can turn on the air conditioning if you prefer.
Coqui Suite – The Coqui Suite, just steps from the Great House by a walkway lined with gardens and its own separate building, is Tingalayo’s most private accommodation. The Coqui Suite has a king canopy bed and a private ensuite bathroom. It also features both ceiling fans and air conditioning. At night you can hear the sound of frogs and the surf far below.
Spa Deck – On the other side of the Coqui Suite is the Spa Deck. It hosts an inground spa nestled into the rock on the hillside and a multileveled deck with seating and sunning cushions.
Games Room – Situated a few steps below and between the Great House and the Coqui Suite is the Games Room. With a large expansive concrete deck off the back to watch the sail boats off of Jost van Dyke, and Sandy Cay, an interior air conditioned space to enjoy music, television and games with family and friends, a half bath and dry bar, and a courtyard with an outdoor pool table, it is a favorite gathering place.
Guest House – Reached by a paved and lighted pathway, the Guest House is its own self-contained villa. The ground floor kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, Italian granite countertops, and bar seating for four. Adjacent is a full bath with an indoor shower, double sinks and toilet. The kitchen opens onto a comfortable living room with television, bookshelves stocked for readers and game players, and doors leading out to the plunge pool and patios. There is a covered patio living room area and an alfresco dining area with seating for six. Adjacent to this is the plunge pool, a small but deep private pool for taking a quick refreshing dip.
Upstairs the Guest House features two bedrooms, a full bath and an outside balcony. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and air conditioning. One bedroom is outfitted with a king sized bed and one with the option of being either one king sized bed or two twin beds.
Gym – At the entrance to the property, above the covered parking area and up the spiral staircase, is an air conditioned gym with stunning views of St John.
Cielito – The Cielito, called Little Sky, is a gazebo overlooking the full expanse of the property. Situated beside the Buddha it was designed for meditation, wedding ceremonies and yoga, the Cielito is a lovely addition to the property. In the nearby garden is a sand sport court for bocce, corn hole and other family games.
